Summary

I love the original design for this rocket, super easy to print and flies great. However I had some issues with its reusability, mostly with how the design seems to be burnt easily by the engine. These are some improvements to attempt to increase the re-launchabilty of the rocket.

Adjustments in this version:

  • Increased height of the body to allow more space for the streamer and packing material

  • Replaced the hole in the body with an exterior ring, I had a lot of issues with the rubber band getting burnt by the ejection charge and this seems to work much better

  • Added a hole in the nose cone for the rubber band to go through and tie on the nose cone cross bar, again to accommodate the new ring in the body to avoid the rubber band getting burnt

  • I also added a ndr-tail-adjusted.stl file which I have not tested. I had issues with the fuel melting the plastic at the bottom, so this should theoretically avoid that problem by putting the engine lower down the tail piece.

The ndr-tail.stl file is unchanged from the original, added here for convenience. I still want to attempt to make improvements to this part of the model as this is currently the biggest failure point of the design. The fins very easily snap off along the layer lines because they are so thin (as you can see in my post-launch pictures), but I'm not sure how to improve it at this point. They only tend break off when landing on hard ground.
