The file 'New Customisable – Gingerbread House – Xmas Card Kit 3D Printer Model' is (zip, stl) file type, size is 1.5MB.

Summary

This is a greatly improved version on last year's release. In that one, it was only possible to edit text separately. Then it needed to be added to the .mix file manually.

This version only needs OpenSCAD (free download) and lets you edit the message, year, graphics and then generate the STL directly.

Instructions:

  1. Preparation - download and install OpenSCAD:
    • Get a development snapshot (these are much faster than the 2021 release)
    • When you first open the .scad file, change the 3D rendering backend (otherwise will be too slow):
      • Edit/Preferences; Advanced; 3D Rendering/Backend - Manifold (new/fast)
  2. Download the model .zip file and extract to a folder
    Important:
    • When you extract it into a folder, it will make subfolders that the .scad file depends on. Do not move or rename those folders
  3. Open the .scad file with OpenSCAD, and you can use the Customizer section on top/right of screen to change:
    • Message - along bottom of the card
    • Image - to print on back of house
    • Year - to print next to Image on back of house
Hint: You can adjust fonts/position/sizes, to fit as you like. These are possible on the Customiser sections.
  4. Render the model (Menu: Design/Render or F6 or button bottom/2nd from left of display window)
  5. Export to STL (Menu: File/Export/STL or button bottom/3rd from left of display window)
  6. Optionally, if the slicer complains, check the STL produced with MS Builder (also free tool), which can repair any problems.
  7. Optionally, download your own .SVG files for images next to the year (e.g. from https://www.svgrepo.com/)

... I've also included a couple of generated sample STLs so you can see how it turns out.

History:
Originally, this is a remixed version of the great card by Thingiverse user Nakozen (Creative Commons lic / no commercial use):

Then I based last year's release on the Biggsandwedge user's remix, as it had relaxed tolerances (which I was finding I needed):

Last year's release had the following updates:
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6353116

  • Details printable on the back of the house
  • Included a few custom detail bits for the back of house
  • Left everything pre-positioned in a Meshmixer .mix file (needed post-work)
  • Used OpenSCAD to separately make custom images / text detail for the back of house
