Summary

This thing is intended to replace a broken glovebox handle on a 1999-2003 Volkswagen New Beetle.

This was designed to not require the glovebox door to be pulled apart to repair.

There are two options provided:

One option allows you to use your own cover for the face of the handle and glue or screw it on - as shown in the picture, I used a piece of brushed aluminium.

The second option is to print the cover piece included in this set.

Recommended to print all in ABS

To install, first position the handle body in place on the glovebox door, with the large tongue of the piece inserted into the opening of glovebox door mechanism. Place a pivot block through the opening on the face of the handle body and align the grooves of the of the pivot block with the guides of the handle body. Once aligned, slide the pivot block across (outwards), ensuring also that the hole in the pivot block slides over the metal pivot pin on the glovebox door. Repeat the process for the other pivot block. With both pivot blocks in place, the whole assembly should be able to move and operate the glovebox mechanism as normal. To stop the pivot blocks from falling out, push the locking piece (or the printed full cover piece) into the same gap in the middle facehandle body, which was used to initially insert the pivot blocks. The glovebox handle is now secure and fully operable.

You may screw or glue fix your own face plate to the main handle body, if you wish.

Also, I recommend test fitting and clearancing all the pieces before final installation on the glovebox door, as it may be extremely difficult to remove a partially fitting piece once in place.
