Summary

Thank you to Kdor for the nice design.

Now this is a nesting box for garden birds.

I design it in two versions. To hang it in the tree (not sure whether this is a good idea - make sure the wind can not move it to much) or to mount it on the wall (with a screw on the backside). It's my first nesting box so I read this german text for the dimensions and the holes https://www.berlin.de/special/haustiere/4296503-2840263-nistkasten-selber-bauen-lochgroesse-ist-.html I guess this is a usable result now. Not sure the birds will like it too.

It is printable without support. Choose a good infill, a bit more is better than to less. If you are unsure make it with PETG or similar to make it more weatherproof but I think PLA should work too. If possible use thick layers (or print it in less quality) so the skin is not to smooth for the birds and do not paint it. (Maybe play around with the fuzzy skin option in Cura) You should print it in a natural color like brown, dark green, maybe white, gray, black. Not in pink, red, yellow and so on.

Place it not less than 2m over the ground and not in the full sunshine. Make sure other animal can not reach the nesting box. (cats or similar) The hole should point to east or south-east (in Europe)

You can not open it to clean it.

If you make it please give feedback (and please a picture).

My Make you can found here: https://www.thingiverse.com/make:608743 I highly suggest a Fuzzy Skin.

Update: Update to newer version with a higher hole. Old versions are available in the download.
