Summary

A little gem to use as (hidden) storage, or for decorative use.

Description
Mushrooms have inspired incredibly beautiful lamps and other decorative designs, but to my surprise not a single jar or canister. That while I imagened it would be so nice...

Let's change that. Here's my impression of what it should look like. It's my 2nd design that I've painted and honestly, I'm proud of it.

For the model I designed a screw thread for the first time. The final result works very well. Please note that after printing the thread movement of the Lid and the Jar will become stiff. This is because a roughness is created during printing. To remedy this, you must carefully force the lid a little further by turning. Unscrew regularly to blow off the small particles of filament that come loose. In the end, a very smooth-running screw thread remains. To achieve this I slightly underdimensioned the thread of the pot.

I printed everything with 0.4 nozzle, layer thickness 0.2 and without support. (I hate supports) This resulted in some strands of filament coming loose in the bottom of the Lid. I have neatly removed them. *See update for an easier to print model. Please note that if you use support on the original model Lid, you only fit it to the bottom of the lid and not to the threads or sides!

I drew the stem of the mushroom, the Jar myself. I kept the wall thickness fairly thick (V1). This corresponds to something made by pottery. It just feels right.

For the cap of the mushroom I remixed a model of a geo-cache canister (a mushroom with a thin stem). As a small detail I added gills in the edge of the cap (where the spores come from).

The original model of the cap: Mushroom container by mroek December 29, 2015!

Updates:

  • Added Jar V2: Thinner wall (1.6mm instead of 3mm): 45% reduction in printing time of jar. (updated printfiles with optimum printing time)
  • Added higher Lid V2 without gills: overhang reduced and gradient to overhang improved, better printable without supports! (almost identical print time as original)
  • New model! Added Jar and Lid V3: The most recognizable mushroom: the red with white dots... Official it is the Fly Agaric (Amanita muscaria).. My own impression/approach. Hope you like him, at home they did! p.s. scaled to 125% it has the ideal size for pencils (scale both Jar and Lid).
