Hello everyone!
This is my first design I release to the public, and my contribution to the #RemixChallenge.
You can see me showcasing how it works on the following link - https://youtu.be/4MvTmCAEniY
I wanted to do something big with alot of parts and see if I could make it work together, I based my design around the Mini Monster Truck With Suspension and kept building from there. There are alot of pieces in this Mashup/Kit/Playset. I'll go through it with you one by one, how I thought and my advice for your best printing experience.
I've oriented every part so that it best fits my needs on a Original Prusa MK2. Your orientation might be different though with other printers, I advice you to take my pointers as hints only, you know your printer and what it's capable of.
Mini Monstertruck - http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1557428
I wanted to make the truck modular, with lots of different tools and accessories to make it last longer for children playing with it. The model is great from the start, all I had to do was to cut some holes on the sides of the car and one in the front to fit the tool holders I designed. In the pictures the front hole is a bit low and isn't giving alot of room for error, this is FIXED in the uploaded version. Sorry, no time to reprint before the deadline. I also added a hitch to the back of the car that allows you to pull the remixed Brawny Boxcar. You will want to use supports for this one.
Tool Holders - These are my own design, they fit very well in the holes on the car. You might have to play around with them a bit, I designed them to be a tight fit so that they won't come loose. You will need 3 of these per car.
Brawny Boxcar - http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:274774
Since we are getting alot of accessories to our Monstertruck, we need somewhere to store them. This is where the boxcar comes in. The boxcar is designed as a train cart, so I cut off the bottom of the boxcar and the top of the Monstertruck and merged them together. Now we have a Brawny Monsterboxcar. I had to cut the top up to make it in to a lid, and open up the inside to fit our tools. To be able to be pulled by the truck I opened up half a hole in the front of the boxcar and added a second hitch. You definitley will want to use supports for this one, up until midway anyway. Once you get up to the boxcar itself I didn´t need any supports.
Boxcar Roof - I know it looks like it doesn't fit in the pictures. It does fit, but it's a very tight fit and hard to open up, during the photos I didn't push it all the way down. The uploaded version is FIXED with a bit more space for more ease of use. Sorry, no time to reprint it before the deadline. You will probably need supports for the outer edge, unless you find a creative way to position it on your printer.
Hitch - This is my own design, it's only purpose is to connect the Monstertruck and the Boxcar. No supports needed.
Tunnel Drill - This is my own design. It's designed to sit in the front of the car. If you want a beefier one I recommend scaling it 125-150%. You will want supports from the buildplate only on this one.
Riot Shield - This is my own design. It's designed to sit in the front of the car. Originally I wanted to remix a Snow Plow I found here on thingiverse. The model was broken and was a pain to repair so I ended up modeling this one from scratch instead, and I'm glad I did. It looks really cool coupled with two miniguns! No supports needed on this one.
Babies First Mace - http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:166802
Remixed. Such a good model, a joy to work with. Scaled it down and joined the three pieces together and added my own fitting tool to it. Supports from the buildplate only on this one.
Beefy Arms - http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:217849
Remixed. I absolutley love how these turned out! I scaled them up to 800% and added holes for my tool holders. They make the Monstertruck look very hardcore! You might want to play around a bit with positioning this one, I found that fists up in the air and shoulders on the buildplate worked will. I used both a raft and supports on this one.
The following accessories are designed by Xian Brock at WuLongToys and remixed by me. You can find Xian's work here - http://www.thingiverse.com/WuLongToys
Rocket Launcher - This is designed to fit on top of the trailer hitch, even when the boxcar is coupled with the monstertruck. Originally I wanted even more accessories for this mounting point but time was big issue here. This turned out really cool though, you can turn it in any direction you want. You want supports from the buildplate only on this one.
Scimitar - Remixed. Added my own fitting tool. This is a tricky one to print. I recommend using a raft on this one. Nu supports needed though.
Jet Pack / Thruster - Remixed. Added my own fitting tool. Easy to print with supports from the buildplate.
Shields - Remixed. Had to fill up the front for it to print well, it lost a little characted that Xian had given it but resulted in a much more reliable print. Added my own fitting tool to them. No supports needed.
I used Simplify3D for slicing all of the models. They are printed on a Original Prusa MK2, you can find my S3D profile here if you are unsure how to print them - http://s000.tinyupload.com/?file_id=21571669778301285054
Summary: This was a very fun mashup to put together. I constantly came up with new cool ideas and had to restrain myself due to the time frame. There is definitley more to be done to this kit! If you can imagine it you can make it!
All of the creation of new parts and remixing was done in Tinkercad.
