Summary

I recently started using Printoid for OctoPrint with my Monoprice Maker Select and had to figure out where to put the Android tablet. Looked at what models were out there and decided this would be a good first 3D design project.

Got the basic shape from a wire mesh business card holder that I use as a tablet stand on my desk. Thought it might be nice if the mounts snapped onto the top of the printer frame. Made a couple of prototypes out of foam-core. Then started modeling in Onshape.

At first I just modeled the lower portion that would snap on to get the size right. While doing this I noticed it would slide back and forth really easily. I had recently seen a number of camera mounts that used little magnets to hold them in place so added holes for them on the bottom.

I also put in holes for some 1/4 inch threaded rod that I had. After printing the final mounts and adding the magnets I found I didn't really need the rods. So you can use them with or without the rods.

If you want to play around with it the Onshape model can be found at (https://cad.onshape.com/documents/a5b4b14806d07fe1153e7cfe/w/156376d5213f95c174466755/e/76b4fe2e482f0c9419610768).
