Summary

!!!! WARNING !!!!

I made here a better CNC design than this one ! please checkout this new design before make this old version : https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3813481

!!!! WARNING !!!!

I wanted to build my own printed cnc machine, so i did it.

This machine is modular, each rails can be drive independantly.

We can imagine a Delta 3D printer based on, 3 or 4 Axis CNC router, CNC laser cutter...

For now I've just made a CNC router wich work pretty well with adapted speed and depth, i can get some good clean results.

This machine is still in developpement but I'm currently working on some videos on, to build and upgrade it.

Check here if you want see the build : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pz6y0ho0O4Q

Here if you want to see the base plate : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pV0MSZxXf3Y

And finally here for some details : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6kDdH45XQ6k

Some recent upgrades (04/11/2018) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y7ykAU7KowE

(Sorry it's in french I will try to traduct some videos :) )

You can subscribe here to support me : https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1n4rLI-myH5Y4OKrAkba_A , I think I will soon make a laser engraving / cutting, and some other machine like that.

Machines Specs :

  • 450 x 450mm work surface
  • 500W common spindle with ER11 holder
  • Something about 60mm depth
  • Tested on Wood and Plexyglass / Polycarbonate

Materials used :

  • 4 20 x 40mm x 600mm long aluminium profil
  • 2 20 x 40mm x 500mm long aluminium profil
  • 6 8mm x 500mm long chrome steel rod
  • 2 8mm x 200mm long chrome steel rod
  • 3 8mm x 500mm trapezoidal lead screw, with the nut
  • 1 8mm x 200mm trapezoidal lead screw, with the nut
  • 12 Nilon wheel with 5mm bearing (like on Creality CR10)
  • 18 Screw M4 x 50mm ( 45 or 60mm will work too)
  • 12 Screw M4 w 25mm (25mm is VERY important)
  • 12 M3 x 30mm
  • Some little M3 screw for motors
  • 4 NEMA17 motors (better is type double)
  • Arduino UNO (+ GRBL software) with CNC shield V3 Protoneer

3D Printed parts list (how many parts you will need to print) :

  • 3 x XYAxis_support_motor.stl
  • 3 x XYAxis_end_rail.stl
  • 2 x YAxis_cart.stl
  • 1 x XAxis_cart.stl
  • 2 x XAxis_wheel_support.obj
  • 4 x YAxis_wheel_support.stl
  • 1 x ZAxis_end_rail.stl
  • 1 x ZAxis_motor_support.stl
  • 1 x ZAxis_cart.stl
  • 1 x ZAxis_spindle_support.stl
  • 2 x Right_machine_foot.stl
  • 2 x Left_machine_foot.stl

Printing advices :

Increase wall lines count and infill will increase rigidity of the machine.

I first printed some part with 20% infill and 2 lines count to print faster, it WASN'T a good idea.

So I recommand something like 4 or 5 wall lines count, with 30% infill with a good pattern like cubic.

Pattern like zigzag or line are faster to print but very less solid.

Thanks for reading !
