The file 'Miniature Painting Holder (25-40mm Versions) 3D Printer Model' is (STL) file type, size is 5.6MB.
I present my miniature painting holder.
While there are already many painting holders out there (both commercial and shared freely); all the ones I tried were compromised in ways I wasn't happy with. I had a go at designing something that ticked my personal requirements. Hopefully you may also find it of use.
I wanted avoid adhesives or mounting putties and also elastic bands, as these don't provide enough clamping force and it can be hard to source the right size. This is also true for springs.
The final design pivots at the base and clamps a miniatures base at the top. A nut and thumb screw just above the holder's centre pulls the two halves together. The ring should help with paintbrush control at most angles and the uniform ergonomic handle is comfortable in all 360 degrees.
Each handle is sized specifically for one size of base. There are currently 4 holder sizes: 25mm, 28mm, 32mm and 40mm.
Items needed other than printed parts are:
2x M4 nuts,
2x M4x30mm hex head screws,
2x M3x10mm or 12mm countersink screws,
M3 tap (optional).
An M3 tap shouldn't be necessary to install the M3 screws, but a tapped hole is less likely split the layers.
The one thing I'm not happy about is the support ring can't be rotated and instead the model needs to be rotated.
