I wanted a joystick for racing games with a knob as steering wheel and a sequential gearbox but not too big, so I removed the dust from my old "Microsoft SideWinder Precision Racing Wheel" from the '99 and destroyed it :)
Pedals for breake and throttle where removed completely (it was to complex to use them with potenciomenters).
Springs were taken from old DVD and Floppy drives.
Electronic Switches were taken off from the buttons PCB of the steering wheel and soldered out straight to cables into the main PCB (so I've got 4 extra buttons plus 2 to replace breake and throttle and 2 for the gearbox)
I thought to share this little project cause it could give you some ideas on how to create something similar but this build is specific for the joystick I had from Microsoft.
I've used 123D Design. Uploaded is the final file with the entire design.
I'm still thinking about it, after playing some time it needs some improve on the design and also buttons feel like "touch", they are too sensitive.
