Summary

This is a minifigure storage tower I designed over a two-episode podcast special. The design draws heavily off some other storage concepts that area available but that are not free and also &(((&^^^ design that is free. However, this design takes the best of each are add some personal cosmetic flair to make it a new free minifigure storage option for the community. I really hope like me this will solve some storage issues you might have with all of your figures and make them look good in the process.

There are a few different options when it comes to printing this for your mini storage:

Option One: Simple base model, this version should print and go together easily. It doesn't not have a place for plexiglass, Leds, or a transport strap.

Option 2: Simple Model with a place for transport straps. Just the bare minimal to get it together and make it so that it can be transported with a 1-inch strap.

Option 3 and 4: These models have places for led lights and plexiglass inserts. This will be slightly more demanding to print and will require additional cleanup and work to get the Plexiglass and LEDs to function correctly.

All models are designed to work with 4x6 magnetic sheets secured to the bottom of each tray. The mini you place on the trays will also need magnets in their bases. Either rare earth or magnetic sheet. I will list all needed items below with my amazon associates link if you want to support me then just use those links to buy the additional items, won't cost you any extra and lets me give out free models like this to the community!

Instructions:

  1. Decide if you want the ability to install LED lights, plexiglass slots, or transportation strap.

  2. Decide how many layers you would like your tower to be.

  3. Each file is designated as to if it is compatible with LED/Plexiglass/Transportation Stap

  4. Each tower you print requires at minimum: 1 Atlas Base, one LOTR top, and two mini tower trays.

  5. Each additional tray you would like to include requires: 1 shelf, 4 columns, and a try.

  6. The universal column can be used if you do not want LED or Plexiglass, otherwise each set of columns need to include: 1 back right, 1 back left, 1 front right, 1 front left.

  7. Once assembled i do not include instructions for installing LEDs and or Plexiglass as it is unique to each persons design, and requires skill beyond the scope of this tutorial.

  8. Each Tray is named in accordance with the size base that it is intended to hold. Ex 1 inch base is designed to hold mini figures with 1 inch base. Please convert to mm if that is your preference.

  9. There are three different height columns. Small, Medium, and Large. I recommend using this file in your slicing software next to your mini to determine the needed height. For Most mini figures with 1-2 inch bases the small will provide ample height, beyond that each mini should be tested individually.

  10. Included in the files are custom bases designed to work with each tray. However, any minifigure base should fit in the trays so long as they are scaled correctly to the size opening.

  11. Each base includes multiple files for different magnet sizes, i recommend 12x3mm magnets for 1 and 1.5 inch minis, and 20 mm magnets for 2-3 inch minis. I have not tested 4 inch mini bases therefore i can not recommend a magnet however, I've included a file for a 20x3mm magnets for 4 in bases its a strong magnet but depending on the height and weight of the mini it may be underpowered.

  12. each tray should have a magnetic sheet attached to the underside, these sheets will attach to Neodymium magnets in the bases to hold the minis secure. I recommend the thicker sheet without self adhesive as it is a stronger magnet, however, the self adhesive version is useful if you install LEDS because the cover for the adhesive film is reflective and can slightly improve lighting from smaller leds if the film is left in placed and put face down. Whatever you use will need to be secured with super glue as the self is not strong enough to hold the sheet in place over time.

  13. I recommend test fitting the tower before final assembly and then gluing the tower parts together once final design has be achieved.

  14. Columns that will go into the LOTR top will need to be sanded down to fit into the LOTR top. This was a design mistake on my part but is a simple fix with sandpaper without me having to redesign the files.

  15. I currently do not recommend printing the LED/Plexiglass/strap version unless you understand the requirements to make something like that work as it is much more time intensive and difficult to achieve. If there is enough interest i will make a version 2 design that uses much simpler to install led strip lighting that will work much better for this design and be simpler to install and require less files to print.

  16. Once assembled feel free to paint and decorate as you see fit. I recommend that if you are going to paint/texture the trays that you do that before installing the underside magnets just to keep them clean.
