The file 'Mario Themed Desk Lamp – Edited 3D Printer Model' is (stl, pdf) file type, size is 14.0 MB.
Edit 2/2/22 Added a few new options:
A new wall called wall stone to give option between stone and brick
New couplers with stops in the middle
Optional lampshade to have question marks on the outside of the lampshade and lid
A new pipe adapter and nut to make it easier to use led strips (I used 5 volt strips and a USB cord for power)
A pipe holder that glues to the underside of the wall below the holes to hold the pipes up off of the desk
A picture of the lamp with all of the new options.
Edit 6/29/2021 By request, added pipe_plug_lamp and pipe_plug_switch as separate things. You can now print them separately if you choose.
Edit 3/26/2018:
By request, I have added an optional lid for the lampshade. I didn't include it in the original because my build used an incandescent lamp. I was concerned that the plastic would go all melty from the heat of the lamp with a lid on the shade. Several people have mentioned that with LED lighting it should work with a lid. I agree, but use the lid at your own risk. DO NOT use it with an incandescent bulb. You've been warned!
Mario themed desk lamp
This is a project based on a number of similar lamps I've seen on the internet. Some were made of cast iron, some with ABS plumbing pipes. Mine is completely 3D printed.
I used a free model of Mario called Mario (2) Trophy that I got from models-resources.com/download 3794. It was submitted by thegameexplorer and is from the game Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I had to do a bit of work on the .obj file before I could use it because it was open mesh. I wanted to modify it (to put the bead chain hanger on it). I also had to scale it up quite a bit because it was very small.
I wanted to use the Mario question block lampshade by leethegeek - thing 954281, but it was too big and scaling it left the sides too thin. I had to recreate it from scratch. Wanted to give credit though.
I also used Piranha pencil topper by BrandonW6 - thing 39443. All I added here was a stem for it.
And lastly, I used rtideas thing 744570 strain relief (slightly scaled up to accomodate my power cord) to attach the cord to the deck.
All the rest I designed myself.
