The file 'Magnetic Hold-down For Laser Cutters 3D Printer Model' is (stl,ai,dwg, svg) file type, size is 1.3MB.

Summary

This is a hold-down meant to enclose and protect a standard 30x3mm circular rare earth magnet, and can be used to hold down small/thin/lightweight/flexible materials inside of a laser cutter like the Glowforge that has a fan strong enough to blow them around. The edges have overhangs meant to hold 3mm and 6mm material pinched from the side (it usually takes at least 4 to hold something firmly). They are designed to be short enough to fit under the 1/2" clearance of the Glowforge's carriage.

If you need to use different sized magnets, feel free check out the Onshape CAD source and make a copy for yourself.

I have included several formats of the 2d file used to laser cut the wood "lid" (in case you want to etch a design on it), along with a 3d printable STL file for those who don't have a laser cutter (in case you find some other use for these hold-downs).

You can get appropriate magnets from amazon, aliexpress, etc. The stronger the better (N52 work really well).

This design is heavily influenced by pubultrastar's design posted to the Glowforge community forum, though I had a different size magnet on hand and decided to make this design from scratch.
