I'm installing magnetic child locks on all the cabinets and drawers in the house to keep my kid out of things. I've been using the Safety 1st brand locks and have been happy with them, but the kits really don't come with enough keys and it seems like there's never one around when you need to get into a drawer. So I ordered some magnets from ebay and designed some housings to make my own keys.
Each key requires two 25mm x 2mm neodymium magnets
Thanks to the rare earth magnets, these keys are actually a little stronger and seem to work better than the originals. They also double as excellent fridge magnets :)
Note: I've only tested these keys with the Safety 1st locks, but these keys should work with any brand of lock with a similar design, just make sure the polarity of your magnets matches the ones on your original key.
