Summary

WARNING

This version of the M548 is not 100% finished. Some parts such as winch, interiors, machine gun or the hinges for the front doors are not made. The hole project has been developed using FreeCad and at this point, it has become too large and complex and some of the files has been corrupted. This makes me really hard to redesign, upgrade and develop new parts.

The bad news is that this version won't be updated anymore

The good news is that I’m working in a new version using a more powerful CAD software . I will redesign the entire model and include important upgrades in the gearbox, tracks, sprockets and It will include much more details such as opening front doors interiors, winch and machine gun (among other things). This new version will also include more detailed building guide with bill of materials and everything you need to build it step by step.

However with the already published files, you will always be able to build a fully functional M548 as you can see running in the youtube videos below. If that enought for you, that's PERFECT!

I will inform you as soon as I have everything ready to publish the new version. Thank you very much for your comprehension and patience!

Stay tunned!

INTRODUCTION

This is the Chassis for the M548 RC 1/10 scale model. It is the first part in order to build the entire model. I have design it in order to be printed in a 200x200 mm printer (the most common). I've tested the model and, although it is not finished yet, it seems to work propperly. You can see it working in the following links:

  1. M548 Test 1.

ASSEMBLY

FreeCAD

I'm very proud to say that the entire design has been done using FreeCAD opensource software. I must thank all the developers. Without you, this project wouldn't be possible!!

To make the assemble easier to understand, I've included the FreeCAD assembly files where you can see in detail, how to come all the parts together. If you want to download this software for free and visualize the assemble, you can do it in the following link:

FreeCAD official page FreeCAD.

Although I've tried to design all the parts in order to be assembled using just bolts and nuts, some parts need to be glued. These parts are:

  • Chassis_D_left
  • Chassis_D_right
  • Chassis_D_center

Hardware

In order to assemble all the parts of the chassis, you will need the following stuff:

  • 54 X 10mm M3 bolt (ISO7046)
  • 80 X M3 nut (ISO4032)
  • 10 X 20mm M3 bolt (ISO7046)

In the FreeCAD assembly files, you will see 3 different parts: Assembly_Truss_Hole, Assembly_Truss and Assembly Chassis. In each file you will find all the pieces you need to print in order to build all the parts.
