Summary

This multi-part item is a 3D printable birdhouse. My submission for the Birdhouse Challenge competition.

This standard model has a total of 62 individual parts (11 unique models), is assembled by hand and held together with garden wire or similar. For assembly instructions, download the .pdf file with the parts.

If printed at 100% scale, the walls measure 150mm in length. The base is larger having a dimension of 170mm square. The height of the completed birdhouse measures 150mm from base to tip, although the height can be increased by printing extra "Log" pieces. To raise the height by 3.5mm increments, print 2 extra logs for each increment (Each log is 7mm high and the half height foundation pieces can be placed at the front or side). There should always be an odd number of log pieces. By doing this the user can increase the height of the entrance from the floor, or the height of the roof in relation to the entrance, or both!

The entrance is 30mm in diameter when printed at 100% scale. The door piece is interchangeable and different sizes will be added to the design later. Follow me for updates.

The roof is printed as a single piece, and like the entrance is interchangeable. Custom roof pieces will be added to the design later which will allow the user to attach accessories to the birdhouse, such as GoPro cameras, Raspberry Pi and Arduino computers, and more. Follow me for updates or request a custom application and I'll see what I can do.

The whole model is assembled by hand and held together by common garden wire. The wire threads through the logs from the bottom and grooves are placed to hide the wire and to help guide it through the channels. These channels are 1.5mm wide when printed at 100% scale. The wire allows the birdhouse to be hung from a tree or fence, or to be placed on a flat surface and retain its rigidity in all weather conditions.

The tongue and groove design provides complete waterproofing and helps the user to assemble the unit easily. By 3D printing at a low infill setting will provide insulation and therefore a comfortable habitat for wildlife.
