The file 'Lithophane Maker’s Chromaphane Tool Calibration 3D Printer Model' is (stl,3mf) file type, size is 20.7KB.
This is a tool used to calibrate filament transmission distance for use with Lithophane Maker Desktop's Chromaphane Creator. The app comes preloaded with carefully measured information for American Filament's colors, but you can print this model to calibrate other brands. The transmission distance is a measure of the translucency of a filament. In order to blend colors in your chromaphanes, also known as filament paintings, the software needs to know how thin to make the layers.
The first 0.8mm will be printed in black or white. We prefer to use black as we find it gives the clearest results. You'll insert a pause in your slicer at 0.88mm and switch out your filament to the color you are testing. If you are using a multi-color unit you can do a color swap instead.
Print Settings
Layer Height: 0.08mm
Initial Layer Height: 0.24mm
Ironing: Top Surfaces
Bottom Shell Thickness: 1mm
Top Shell Thickness: 1mm
Once you have printed your model you will pick out the thickness at which you believe the color to be opaque. We used a Color Muse colorimeter to determine the distance of the American Filament selection, but you can get close eyeballing it. Each color square increases in thickness by 0.08mm up to 0.88mm thick. Squares are labelled by height in attached image.
