As butterflies grow, they undergo metamorphosis. It starts when a female butterfly lays her eggs, on leaves. Inside the egg, a caterpillar grows and eventually eats its way out. Once fully grown, the caterpillar forms itself into a pupa for several months. Inside the pupa, the caterpillar transforms into a butterfly.
