Summary

This item builds on https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6362614 and provides robot bases ("bumpers") for use with the field.

I have provided three different "bumper" designs. All of them have 4x4 studs on top, and 4 studs along each side. The intention is that team numbers can be attached to the side, and that models of specific robots could be added on top in a modular way. All of these require supports for the side studs; I found that I needed to file away remaining support to get a clean fit.

  • WCD: This simulates a West-Coast Drive drivetrain, and is intended to be used with Lego Technic wheels, e.g. https://a.co/d/hYfy4lz . Supports are required for the lego-compatible underside, but try to avoid getting supports up inside the brick as they're hard to remove cleanly.
  • Swerve: This simulates a swerve drive (or possibly a ball drive) and is intended to be used with 10mm ball bearings, e.g. https://a.co/d/aw5Mbix
  • Glider: If you don't want to mess about with additional parts, this version just has a flat bottom (with filleted edges) and slides easily across the studded base.

Numbers. I include a 4-stud piece for my team, and also individual digits (for teams with four digits or fewer). If you're planning to use this for strategy-planning in competition, then you'll want to put numbers on each robot, but honestly the individual digits are very fiddly, and single studs are not very reliable. I may add more team numbers on request.

All bumpers also have a "no stud" variant that should be printable without supports. You might prefer to print a no-stud version in "iron" mode and use dry-erase markers to write a team number on the top.
