Summary

This is a leg spreader for photography tripods with leg diameter 40mm.

Other than the printed parts, you'll need:

  • Screws M4 x 25mm, flat head
  • Aluminum square tubes 12mm, min length 200mm.
  1. Print all parts (I suggest PETG or some CF infused material). 0.3mm layer should be fine.
  2. With the jig, drill holes for the screws on the alumium tubes. I used 175mm between centers for my tripod Bexin.
  3. Still using the jig, mark where to cut the tubes.
  4. Assemble the hub, the tubes and the internal part of the clamps.
  5. Position the assembly on the tripod, on a height such that the hub is below horizontal and some force to spread the legs is required to move the hub above horizontal.
  6. Finish assembling the clamps. The assembly should not get in the way when you close the tripod.
