I designed this desk a few years ago. I needed a new electronics workbench with overhead lighting and a shelf for my equipment. Our local Fab-Lab was running a design contest for furniture in which this desk ended third.
This design is a flat pack desk that only requires a hammer (and a file) to assemble, no screws or glue is needed. In the first iteration I used long pieces of MDF to support the large work area. This was insufficient so I replaced them with generic wooden beams from the local DIY store.
My initial thoughts went to a TL tube for lighting, but I came across some high brightness led strips at a low price which I glued on a aluminum U-profile and stuck to the desk.
