Summary

I printed about 30 of the original Lazor Blades by plasma2002 about 4 years ago. I am down to my last 5 & decided to remake them a little bit different Specifically the hands that hold the razor blade would get hit by the beam be turned to charcoal and loosing their grip. The arms were a bit thin for multiple beam strikes in the same area before being cut by the unfocused beam. The main body, when the beam passed over on a slow pass for thick material would flare up underneath cooking the bottom of the project.

With that I remade them with a hollow center, bigger hands to have more of a positive/longer grip on the blade & widened the arms. I made the blade length a little wider to accommodate the cheaper Harbor Freight razor blades.

These are not as cool as the original [cool face!], but they suit my needs a bit more.
If I ever get creative in 4 more years, I'll make them look like an octopus [but with 6 arms].
These were made from drops from other projects [that's why the stain]. Wood is 5mm underlayment from Home Depot - Cheap plywood!

The blade holding dimensions work well for my 40W laser [speed 25, power 100] & its kerf, but your milage may vary with a higher wattage beam or thinner/thicker kerf.

And the reason - a honeycomb board has a lot of little thin pieces of metal touching the project material that, when the laser beam hits, will scatter the beam in other directions causing flare up points which could damage the bottom of the project material. The Lazor Blade stands minimize this. Do use enough stands to keep the cut pieces from dropping down where, if overlapping another piece above, could be hit by the unfocused beam causing surface damage to the project piece top face. Best I can explain it, as is.
