I came up with this design based on the files of the original, but to be purely laser cut. It was also a learning experience in using openjscad.org to parameter-ize the vertices and icosahedron which the map can be scaled to.
The svg files contain the vectors that I used to cut and engrave in 3mm. It's a bit unorganized as is the javascript code, but it did work! I forgot to get a picture of the final, completed version before giving it away at a Christmas party.
I hope these files helpful/inspirational to someone. Apologies for the messy files, I don't plan to really revisit them now that I'm moving more into Fusion 360...
