Summary

This is a set of dials for counting things in games. I used the small ones as wound counters in things like Warhammer or Kings of War. I also use the large ones for that, but they also make great Magic The Gathering life counters.

This design is laser cut using 2 pieces of material, probably fairly thin (I used 1/16" acrylic) and a few 1/8" (or 3mm) cylindrical rare earth magnets. Each disk gets a magnet in the hole in the center which allows the disks to stay together and rotate freely.

There are several ways to deal with the numbers. You can do a raster etching onto some types of plastic. I wanted more contrast so I covered the surface of my material with masking tape and did a vector cut around the stroke of the numbers on a lower setting (17% power, 100% speed, 5000 freq on a 75W Epilog) and peeled the tape of the numbers themselves away and airbrushed it.

These things are really handy, and if you set the magnets correctly you can make them interchangeable and very easily stackable.
