So, here we have a chain designed to be cut from 4mm mdf or hdf (I used HDF)
It can be used to make either a "normal" chain or a chainsaw chain, or in my case. A chainsword chain (google it, 40K chainswords rule)
This is based off Gedgey's design but modified both to include chains and work with 4mm material (which is all I had access to)

Instead of trying to explain in text how to assemble it, I drew up some pictures in tinkercad to show how the assembly works
To get it working smoothly, sanding is required, the last 2 pictures are how I made that task a little easier
using one of the posts used to assemble the chains, in the vice of a drill and the circular bits on it
By attaching a grinding stone for a rotary tool on my drill and locking the "trigger" with a zip-tie I sanded the inside of the tooth-links
the posts are then just glued to the outer links with PVA glue (wood glue)
