The Red Effector is a magnetic rod effector for delta 3d printers. It integrates an angled effector for 15mm diameter neodymium magnets, a hot end cooler and a servo-actuated Z probe. The design also features holes for backup strings between the effector and the carriage. There are also slots for M3 nuts for securely attaching the hot end cooler to the effector.
The current revision is designed to be used with an E3Dv6 hot end (or similar), one 40mm fan for hot end cooling and two 4515 blower fans for cooling the extruded plastic. A nano size RC servo is used to actuate the Z probe. An 2300 (or similar) opto endswitch is used for Z probing.
This is designed to go together with the Kossel Red Carriage (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1225501).
Original Fusion 360 designs have been uploaded to this design.
The parts can be printed using either PLA or ABS filament, although the latter would be safer due to some of the parts being very close to the hotend. Screw everything together with M3 screws.
Z-probe: Drill the Z-probe hole to size with a 2mm drill bit. I found out that due to the close vicinity of strong magnets, regular steel allen key didn't work well as a Z-probe. Instead, I bent some solid copper wire to shape and used it. It works very well. I also tried attaching a small screw as weight to the probe rod, but that only made it worse.
I am currently using a RAMPS controller board with Repetier firmware. The servos can be plugged directly to the controller board. With the following Configuration.h
settings the probe will be deployed and retracted automatically:
#define Z_PROBE_START_SCRIPT "M340 P0 S1550"#define Z_PROBE_FINISHED_SCRIPT "M340 P0 S1300nG4 P200nM340 P0 S-1"
