Summary

Making famous Korg Volca series even more portable. The removable battery tray is replaced by a two 18650 li-ion cell holders. The maximum output voltage is 8.4 which is perfectly fine for the Volca. (It actually can take from around 5.8 to 17 volts as input, with the stated 9V being just a median value).

This mod will void any warranty as it requires disassembling the Volca, removing 6 AA battery tray and desoldering its connections from the board so it will require basic assembly and soldering skills. You have to have at least slight idea what you are doing and know a little bit about lithium batteries (things like not to short them). I am not responsible for any damage you might do to your synth in the process.

You do ont need any BMS and use just plain batteries as the Volcas will cut off voltage when it will drop to about 5.5-5.8V which is around the minimum voltage for a lithium cell (2.7V for a single cell). Standard 1500 mAh 18650 cells will last for about 10-15 hours of active use and you can use a standard charger to charge them.

I have updated all six of my Volcas this way and they work great! No more wires or power supplies.

Have fun!
