Did your kid decide to break the ice on the duck pool with a pickaxe during that super cold week last winter? Do you have a pickaxe sized hole in the duck pool keeping it from holding water for more than a day or two, but Tractor Supply doesn't have new kiddy pools in stock yet because it's only March? Would you rather it took three or four days to leak the water out of the duck pool (maybe even more if you use some rubber gaskets or washers). Boy do I have a half-cooked solution for you! Use a step drill to make that pickaxe shaped hole into a circle, and stuff this thing into it. Then tighten it down and presto! A slightly less leaky pool to get you by until the new batch of kiddy pools comes in at the local feed/hardware store.
Might also work as an oversized container for an undersized item. Want to carry a pair of earplugs or a handful of BBs, but need it to take up an unnecessary amount of space in your pocket? Say no more!
