The whole idea is that when meta removed the rings on the quest 3, 3S and pro controllers, that leaves the joysticks exposed so if you dummy smack your self when playing gtag fro example, your joysticks will be fine. it is mostly made for the ringless controllers.
It also allows you to still move the joystick slightly for scrolling on menus.
