We at Ill Gotten Games are big fans of the Vintage RPG Podcast, and after their generous shout out/answering our question last episode, I felt that I needed to design a miniature of John Hambone McGuire's first D&D character (recalled from youth), the hammer-wielding ranger, Johan.
If you haven't checked it out, Hambone and Stu (Horvath, from unwinnable.com) do a weekly podcast where they discuss tabletop games, and do deep dives on RPGs old and new (the last episode is about Spelljammer, folks). This all branches off of Stu's excellent Instagram feed, which is always an insightful read if you're into the history and current state of tabletop roleplaying games. We're proud to be supporting them on Patreon, and you should really check out what they're doing/throw them some bones if you like it as much as we do.
On the topic of the hammer wielding ranger, I know it might seem silly (and sure, it kind of is), but I personally love the idea. Johan, "the Silent Thunder" (no way that could be used against him), who protects the forest from intruders by sneaking up and braining them with a two-handed hammer-blow. Come on, That's WAY cooler than a bow or a dual-wielded longsword/dagger combo (snore).
