I always wanted to build a proper iPhone holder for my motorcycle because buying a dedicated motorcycle sat nav is really expensive and there is usable software on the marked that complement the capabilities of an iphone well.
So, after I bought my Triumph Speed Triple 1050 I drove it back home and instantly got lost on the way. I hated to get off the bike, pull the iPhone out, check directions and do that same thing all over again for a couple of times.
So I designed, printed and tested this holder and I really like it.
PLA or a similarly strong material is required due to the screw holes I used. ABS might fall apart in between the layers and I'm NOT responsible when you ruin your expensive phone with this! BE WARNED! THIS IS NOT A GOOD IDEA IN GENERAL! But it works for me. :)
The piece is designed to be a tight fit. For some reason my printer has a scaling problem, so I had to add some hot glue in order to fit my phone nicely. This also prevents the phone from vibrating.
I used 4pc 3x20mm screws as well as 6pc 3x12mm screws to put the holder together. I also bought some silicone matt from IKEA (usually used to put a pot on a table - see pictures), cut the squares off on one side and used it to secure the complete mount on the handle bar using two big zipties.
Not waterproof!
