Following the 2 new Carriers created by Ioannis 2; 2 new unexpected events proceeded the new Hubris Class Carriers expedition into Vorlon and Shadow Space. With both ships being unopposed by the First Ones, it wasn’t long till the also exiled Rim Expeditionary Forces got their eyes on them. Also, the Helios Telescope Stations saw in full view the Vorlons backing down as Hubris 1 steamed passed a Vorlon Exclusion Zone Defense Fleet and took position around the Avalon 4 Station. As a result, the Helios Program thru Babylon 5 quietly suspended involvement with the Earth Alliance. The Helios 2 Stations were now fair game for Earth Force Delta and Omega Destroyer occupation.

Ioannis 2’s alarms sounded as a ship jumped in with little to no remaining life support wearing scars of a Delta Class Destroyers carbon scoring on its hull. An Expeditionary Courier Vessel had drifted from a jump point just outside of sensor range to reach the Station. With the crew wearing damage control outer hull repair suits inside, they were met by 5 rapidly advancing ships of unknown origin on attack vector. Those 5 Ships, were Ioannis 2’s Perses Class Battle Cruisers shown above. After a hostile challenge and I.D. The Courier Vessel surrendered. It’s Commanding Officer, barely alive was a former Lieutenant Commander of the Rim Alien Research Program or RARP.

Terrible acronyms…

Anyway, the Battle Cruisers were developed for this role of Ioannis 2 Defense, and Rapid Deployment should Ioannis 1 jump out from between the flash of Hyperspace. To the Lt. Commander, it seemed appropriate that Ioannis 2, his former home had taken a stance to preserve humanity despite the building up Civil War brewing against President Clark and the now ramping up Shadow War in which one would speculate now Earth was involved on the Shadow Side. This is the concept for both Ioannis 2’s new Ships inception. Abandonment from Earth for trade for Shadow technology. Meaning, the Shadows had been eyeballing the Station for sometime now and is why the Station had been charged with rapidly developing so much technology before being ghosted.

So, the Perses name comes from the son of Helios in Greek Mythology, Perses being also known as the destroyer. Fitting… So she may look like the initial blue print of the up and coming Warlock design, but no, she’s not. No artificial gravity here. She’s an Ioannis Ship, with heavy Weapons. Weather it be more fitting to call this a Fast Battleship, Heavy Cruiser or Battle Cruiser, is as I’ve discussed before, depending on who’s ass is about to get blown out of the Stars. So, why bother…

The Perseus Class is designed around the Fighter Bay, a newer B5 concept I brought up some time ago, however this one is built for long duration operations and covered very heavily with alternating frequency anti-bio armor piercing laser cannons. They can rotate 360 x 180 degrees. There isn’t one angle where an enemy can sneak thru. With her hull radiating with immense firepower, and armor plating means defenses are speed and prowess. The new Ioannis fleet and Station reminds us that the Human Race will go forward, all together, or all alone in the night.
