This is a fully-functional finger-spun hypoid gear drive model.
The hypoid gear drive is similar to the bevel gear drive, but the axes of the wheel and pinion in a hypoid gear pair do not intersect. Hypoid gear drives offer a wide range of gear ratios, good efficiency and flexible mounting options. They are widely used in automotive and other industries.
In this model, the pinion is straddle-mounted, i.e. sandwiched between two bearings, for a sturdier assembly.
We have also made a video tutorial on how to design a hypoid gear pair in Blender 3D in a matter of minutes using an online calculator we developed. You can find both the tutorial and calculator at www.otvinta.com.
