Cheap rockwool alternative - Pool noodles.
Cut pool noodle into 20mm-24mm sections, then cut a slit to fit plant stem into noodle. For smaller plants cut a section of the noodle out to better support a smaller stem size, as seen in video below.
Cut 49mm-50mm hole into containers lid
Add tote/shoe box container (covered to prevent algae growth)
Add water/fertilizer
Add plant surrounded by noodle

For use with Kratky method, leave gap between lid and water line 4 roots to uptake air.
