Update 16Jan2018 - Added a two piece hook design that doesn't require support structures when printing.
This is a simple but flexible system of hooks and rod hangers for the kitchen or workshop.
It's based on a 1 inch (or 25mm) wooden dowel rod which you can purchased from the hardware store. Or you can use something else such as a 3/4" PVC pipe.
If you print the parts from something like Hatchbox® wood filled PLA filament, you can stain everything to match your woodwork.
There are four different styles of hangers: Small, large, with and without a slotted opening. The version with the slotted opening allows you to easily add or remove hooks after installing.
There are also four different styles of hooks: Large, small, parallel and perpendicular to the dowel rod. The hooks are captured on the dowel rod so they can’t fall off but you can still slide them around as needed. You can easily design your own hooks. If you do, please share them here!
Of course, you can go without the hooks and use the parts to make things such as towel racks.
The rod hangers can be printed without support. The STL files are oriented in the proper direction for this.
Some of the hooks will require that you add support. (Also see the two piece version that doesn't require support.) For strength, the large side of the hook should be parallel to the build plate. The STL files have been oriented this way.
Layer thickness can be whatever you like. I used 0.2mm in my parts.
The percentage of infill you use depends on the strength you need. I used 30%.
