Summary

Most honey bee hives have both Brood and Super boxes, with frames hung in each.

Typically, the supers will use Castellated Spacers (such as these https://amzn.to/2mBgjJ1) to provide the correct spacing between frames. It's important to ensure that the bees have sufficient room to move around the combs and work on them.

The issue I found is that most brood frames don't use the same castellated spacers.

Even if using something like the Hoffman self spacing frames (such as these https://amzn.to/2mB8B1k), the frames are not evenly spaced out, so the space between brood and super frames can be uneven, leading to tight gaps for the bees to move around.

To solve the problem, and make life better for the bees, I decided to sketch up these frame spacers which can be used on both Brood and Super frames to provide an even spacing.
I know these can be bought already (https://amzn.to/2nXVaJc), but why buy if you can print :)

These can also be printed using any colour PLA, so that you can easily identify which frames have come from a certain hive or Apiary to prevent mixing frames across hives and risking contamination.

When placed on the frames, these provide a 16.75mm space between frames, which is identical to the space provided by Castellated Spacers. They also have a snug fit, to prevent them from slipping off during inspections, but using a small pin hammer they can be tapped onto the end of the frames easily.

Because these have no structural value, I printed them using just a 20% infill to reduce cost, but feel free to change the infill to suit your needs.

No obligation, but if you like this or any other things then feel free to make a small donation.
