The file 'Hinged Magnetic Gunstock (Modified & Optimized) For Meta Quest 2 And 3 3D Printer Model' is (stl) file type, size is 15.0MB.

Summary

This is a magnetic gunstock with hinged rifle stock for easy use in-game...

This thing includes the modified body with integrated barrel and the rifle stock only. For all other models as e.g. rifle stock parts, controller mounts or the part list, see the source thing Magnetic Gunstock (Modified & Optimized).

Note

Please note that the 1/2’’ (21,5mm) steel pipes I did use have a slightly bigger diameter (21,7mm), but... you can also use the original steel pipes with 21,5mm diameter. Just wind some very thin tape or sisal around the threads before screwing in. :-)

Modifications

I have added a hinge for the gunstock body and rifle stock, with magnetic lock mechanism, so that the rifle stock can be flipped with the shoulder or fingers in-game. Might be useful for some setups, and is a nice feature.

I did start designing this variant some time ago already, but the first prototype did not last long. The hinge on the rifle stock is the "weak" part and it did break after flipping it too roughly...

The upgraded design now has a (hopefully) strong enough rifle stock hinge.

Remark:

  • Please note that the body with barrel STL file includes a "particle cloud". It is located below the model on the z-axis, therefore the STL preview shows the model as floating.
  • I was not able to remove those "particles" from the file and cannot say how they have been introduced in the first place. If anyone has a clue how to fix this, please let me know.
  • The "particle cloud" has not impact on slicing or printing, therefore decided to share the model in this state.

Sources

The design is based on Magnetic Gunstock for Oculus Quest 2 (Improved & Simplified) by Teque5.

For which the main source is Magnetic Gunstock for Oculus Quest 1, Quest 2 by Sanlaki and the adjustable buttstock is FGC-9 adjustable butt stock by Untangle Remixed for Oculus Quest by slykittycat

Additional parts for hinge mechanism

  • 8x Round magnets (10mm diameter, 3mm thickness)
  • M3x40mm
  • M3 caphead
  • Plastic glue (the magnets are press-fit, but need to be glued in addition)

Print settings

With 0.4mm nozzle and 0.2mm resolution the female crew threads are "sloppy", but still work perfectly fine for screwing. Anyhow I would recommend 0.15mm resolution.

I did use 30% gyroid infill for the gunstock, but less may be fine as well. As explained above the rifle stock hinge is the "weak" part, I would recommend at least 30% or gradual infill.

Both models can be printed w/o supports. I would recommend a brim for better adhesion of first layer.
