Summary

This is a story tick I made to transfer measurements between cabinet drawer runners. The story stick uses Lufkin steel rulers which are easy to come by here in Australia
(https://www.bunnings.com.au/lufkin-600mm-24-stainless-steel-rule_p5662992). I've used this on the 300mm, 600mm, and 1,000mm Lufkin rulers.

For your reference, the Luflkin rulers are approx 1.05mm thick and 28.6mm wide.

A few of the features I added:

  • An anti parallax cross-hair to accurately take measurements
  • A graduated 1mm scale with detents for pencil marking on the side. The top and bottom edges are exactly 15mm each from the center cross-hair.
  • Interlocking parts front and back parts so that the front top and bottom parts are properly registered increasing accuracy.
  • Flat front and back to allow the stops to register against the work piece.

The following hardware is required

  • Lufkin steel ruler
  • 1 x M6 x 8mm bolt
  • 1 x M4 x 16mm bolt
  • 1 x M4 nut

The M6 thumb screw is threaded and works fine printed. I found it was a little tight, so I used a M6 tap to clean it up so that it was easier to use. Make sure to use some light machine oil on the bolts when you assemble.
