Summary

This is the HevORT IDEX, a remix of the HevORT 3D printer.

This remix aimed at providing a cost-effective and relatively easy-to-build, rigid Idex printer, with the added benefits of being based on a high-performance machine, fulfilling all the dual extrusion needs one might have.

To make all this possible, a few things had to change compared to the original HevORT:

  • Completely redesigned X/Y Gantry to allow for individual extruder motion
  • Switch to a cartesian style X/Y gantry
  • Re-design of the printing bed to account for the added depth and width within the build chamber

Compared to the 315x315x315 mm build volume version of the HevORT, the HevORT IDEX has a build volume of 280x315x315 mm, while only adding 60 mm in depth and 87 mm in width to the overall footprint. Of course, like the original, the HevORT IDEX is also completely scalable.

Specs:

  • 280x315x315 mm build volume (scaleable)
  • 737x540x880 mm footprint (scaleable)
  • rigid 3030 extrusion frame
  • dual motor Y-axis
  • dual motor X-axis (one for each extruder)
  • triple motor Z-axis, enabling auto bed leveling and possibly non-planar printing in the future
  • EVA 2 compatible gantry, providing lots of different options for extruders and hotends
  • optical end-switches for each extruder and the Y-axis
  • total of 9 stepper motors required

I highly recommend using stepper motors which can withstand higher temperatures when enclosing this printer!

As this is still a work in progress, some parts of the design might change as well as some new parts being added to the project.

Additional information:

The names of the .STL files indicate the number of times that part is needed for the build.

The print bed parts are direct replacements for the original HevORT, the rest of the original bed assembly can still be used.

To complete the build you will also need the entire ZR V2.5 available on the HevORT website and the Idex1 and Idex2 carriages on the EVA 2 website.
