Summary

I built one of doublec4's heat set presses because I liked the modularity of the design, which allowed me to print the parts a little at a time and use up remnant filament spools. But after printing the pieces and assembling the press, I was unable to find an SP40 soldering iron at anything resembling a sane price. So I re-made the mount to fit a cheap 80W digitally-adjustable pencil-type soldering iron from Amazon that happens to be compatible with the Virtjoule heat-set insert tips available from Adafruit, Amazon and others.

This is designed to clamp directly to the plastic housing of the soldering iron after removing the rubbery silicone grip. Mount is securely clamped in the pictures even with the gap between the sides of the mount. Yes, I have some flappy shreds of brim still attached in the photos. Yes, I could have used shorter screws. It was still in testing mode when I took the pictures.

I used this iron, but there seem to be dozens of "brands" of the same tool. Browse Amazon using the photos above for reference if the link breaks: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08R3515SF
