Summary

Hamster Land!

A collection of hamster items that fit in a 2.5 gallon or larger hamster cage.

The House

This hamster house has an integrated food chute: Drop small treats into the chimney and they come out in the bowl!

This is a remix of https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1378959.
I added the bowl, chimney chute, and made the house taller with a recessed bottom so that it would sit above the litter / shavings but still allow for bedding material inside. I printed the house at 80% scale for our dwarf Russian hamster.

I used Maya to place our hamster's name on the house but I've provided a the clean (no name) model as well. It wouldn't be hard to use OpenSCAD to make a customizable name for the model if desired.

TODO: I'm thinking of making a grating or slide out bottom for easier cleaning.

The Wheel

UPDATED: See the new, fully customizable wheel here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3494282. This version has STL files that fit a 5 gallon aquarium.

Short video

This is a remix of the beautiful wheel from: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1083729 along with the base from: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2048692.

I have included the standard base as well as a remixed version that incorporates a segmented litter box / dust bath area. (Yes, my daughter's hamster actually uses this as a litter box now. The trick is to find the corner where they naturally want to go and place the box there.)

The wheel as originally designed incorporates a 608 bearing (don't fret, just order one from Amazon for a few cents). It's well worth it because it runs perfectly smoothly and silently. I have added a printable bolt and wingnut as well as two washers that keep the wheel spaced correctly. The thin washer goes between the base and wheel and to keep the wheel from rubbing. The thicker one goes between the wingnut and the bearing.

The Tower

UPDATED: I've added a second tower option that is more castle-like and has a spiral staircase. This is a remix of https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:682167 with modifications to make it suitable for the hamster. This is a bit tall for my 5g aquarium and if placed against the glass allows him an escape path, so be careful! I may do a new version of this soon with fewer stairs.

This is a minor remix of: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2139139 to make it suitable for a hamster to stand on the top and beg for food :). I flattened the roof area and tried to fix a glitch in the wall of the stairs (although my patch is not great).

Bottle Holder

(Visible in the background of the first couple of pictures). This is suitable for the small Lixit brand small water bottle shown. It has a hole that will accept a suction cup.

Printing

I printed most of this at 0.35 on my MK3. For the nut and bolt I used 0.2 with 100% infill and slowed it down. I used PLA for all of this, which I believe is non-toxic, but my hamster hasn't really chewed on any of it yet anyway. Note that PLA does not hold tension well so don't over tighten the wingnut.

Note: I printed the house at 80% scale for our dwarf Russian hamster.

The towers should print with no support but the opening for the lion crest may need to be cleaned up a bit. The lion crest is separate so that you can print it flat and at higher quality if you wish.
