Summary

I created a gothic style building from some fantastic models on Thingiverse, whilst also adding my own details. The models are scaled to be used in a 1-in-20 scale building and may be rescaled to suit your needs. There are sufficient bits-and-pieces for you to design and construct your own unique building. Refer to my photos for ideas - also check out other ideas on the Interweb.

My building ended up being about 600mm wide, 1000mm long and 750mm high; walls are 16mm thick; roof pitch is 30 degrees. I used MDF for walls; 0.8mm thick polycarbonate sheet for windows. The roof trusses are made from wood and the roof tiles are made from thin packaging cardboard glued to 3mm MDF. Most surfaces are painted satin (semi-gloss) white.

I added details such as:
a. Storm pipes and drain from my “Pipe Fittings Collection 2” https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6011842
b. Conical light fittings and pipe from my “LED Lamp Collection for Diorama”. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5757586
c. Stairs from my “Spiral Staircase” https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5854318

  1. Gothic window by Njorn https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3135053
Scale modified only. Print as an inner/outer mirrored pair using a filament printer, no supports, 25% infill. Assemble with window material between.

  2. Milano cathedral rose by Calgon https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4296664
Scale modified only. Print as a mirrored pair using a filament printer, no supports, 100% infill. Assemble with window material between.

  3. A Bit of Venice on the Warhammer 40k side! by Earsling https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2498416
I cut up the gothic arch model to fit my printer. Print lower section as a mirrored pair, as it is not quite symmetrical. Print upper section as a pair. I also created pillar bases and a raised walkway support. Print using a filament printer, no supports, 25% infill. I made the walkway floor from MDF.

  4. Arch by Byzantium3D https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4165641
I scaled the model and closed up the holes on the lower surface. I then created a matching door frame, hinged door and spacer. Hinge pins should be 2.0mm diameter. Print using a filament printer, no supports, 25% infill.
