I needed a 90 degree adapter for mounting a gopro on my motorcycle helmet but I needed the camera to be able to lean back more than the original design. I made a cutout that allows more adjustment with a gopro in a waterproof case. I tried it with a both a hero3 and hero7 in waterproof cases and they both fit fine.
