Summary

Another GI Joe model for my game, drawn using my old toy and a 6 inch calipers. Although the file is presented full scale, I modeled it so that it was optimized when printed at 25%. Unless you stay in that range it may have too much or too little detail.

I think all my friends wanted this toy when I was a kid. It was a giant F-14, who wouldn't?

Like the Rattler, this may be a challenging print due to the number of pieces. You'll have to glue it together but I think that is easier than having one file with lots of supports to clean off. It also makes painting it easier. I create these models so they are first-and-foremost "printable".

  1. The airframe is one piece, print it nose up.
  2. Choose which wings you want; either swept back or extended. (Sorry, the wings don't move like the real jet, you have to pick which one you want.) I sanded the joining surfaces smooth before gluing them on.
  3. The gun pod is printed horizontally, flat side down.
  4. All of the missiles are printed pointed up. One fin on each missile file is squared off so you'll have a larger surface area to glue to the air frame.

Have fun, and watch out for Cobra Stingers.

Update 3/5/16 - Added another version of the air frame with wider vertical wings, and is labelled as such. You only need this file if your slicer is having trouble with the original file.

Much respect and gratitude to the men and women of our Armed Forces (past and present). Your sacrifice allows people like me to live in peace and freedom. /You/ are the real American heroes.

This file is a free download. I had to think about how this one should be licensed. Since it is a well known physical object (an F-14 Tomcat) I am safe making it 'creative commons'. Meaning, Hasbro did not "invent" this jet so they do not hold a copyright on this design.

Since it is listed as 'creative commons - attribution' there are very few restrictions on how you use these files. You are welcome (and encouraged) to print them out for yourself for personal use. You are also allowed to buy and sell physical copies of the models. However, if you use my files and my pictures you should provide a link back to where you got them. Thanks.
