Summary

This is my take on a Nixie Tube for use with Q's Free version of the Ghostbusters Belt Gizmo. I wanted ones that resembled real ones without the fragility of glass and felt it was important to ensure that the interior of the tube, where the digit is displayed, was visible and able to be lit.

I created a clip on plate that contains the segments for the numeric display so it can be customized with whatever number is desired.
NOTE that this release contains only the full 7 segments but that interior plate can be modified in any modeling software to blank out the unlit segments.

Once the plate and tube are assembled they can be wrapped in a thin layer of tape (matte or crystal) which completes the illusion of a glass tube.

Recommended print settings:

  • Tube: Print upside-down in Clear PETG with tree supports. It should be oriented so that the side with the wire holes faces up.
  • Plate: Print face down. Recommend Black PETG to block the light (although my test models were done in Clear PETG and painted). PLA prints were too fragile.

This was printed on an Ender 3 Pro with a 0.4 nozzle and 0.2 layer height although feel free to use the settings that work best for you!

2024-02-10: Added updated LCD panel with better tolerances on the side panel to print balanced on both sides
