Summary

An alternative X-carriage for Geeetech Prusa i3 X. Made for a smooth rod separation of 45mm (not the default 70mm). It was designed to have some minor advantages as compared to the stock Geeetech carriage set:

  • Easier removal of the extruder from the carriage: Unscrew two M4 screws from the bottom and pull the extruder forward through the gap (backplate.stl)
  • Cable gaps for hot-end cables and motor cables at the bottom of the back plate -> No loss of build volume in any direction
  • Back-mounted (M3 screw and nut) cable holders and pass-through-holes allowing to fixate cables at the back side (back-cable-holder.STL) - alternatively a cable tie can be used by means of a provided additional hole
  • Fan shroud for the existing 40mm fan to cool the hot-end a bit (fan-duct-1.stl)
  • 3 sets of frontal mounting holes made for M3 nuts (Separation: 24mm, 40mm and 78mm) - easy and convenient mounting
  • Circular fan duct for perfectly uniform cooling flow (fan_duct.stl) - The duct is designed to have a distance of 3mm from the print bed to not to rip off the 4 binder clips. However, the minimal distance from the heater block is 1mm. Two LED mounts are provided.
  • Less weight than solid acrylic
  • The heads of the screws and washers are hidden within the backplate
  • See also the corresponding backplate: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1485794

Limitations:

  • The provided belt fixation (belt_fixation.stl) can only be used with low profile SC8UU bushings/bearings (i.e. http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1196801)
  • You'll potentially need shorter M4 and M3 screws. This was designed for 10mm M3 screws and 10mm and 16mm M4 screws.
  • The back cable holder may limit your maximum/minimum X distance (in my case reduced by -3mm)
  • There is not much room for the circular fan duct. Take care not to melt it by the heater block.

_Update 23.01.2016: Fixed Belt fixation: Belt was not fixed properly
_Update 28.02.2016: Added version for GT2 timing belt with 1.38mm height (Attention: some GT2 belts have a height of 1.7mm or 1.54mm)
_Update 18.10.2016: Widened support for backplate (backplate v1.1.STL) for larger nozzle diameters.
