Ganesha, represented as a cowherd with short legs and a stick is common in the Kasargod region of Karnataka, India. The form alludes to the mythical story where Ganesha as a cowherd tricks the demon king Ravana into parting with his precious Atma Linga. Ganesha’s quick thinking prevents Ravana from becoming even more powerful by possessing the Atma Linga. A representation of god Shiva.
This form of Ganesha can be found in Gokarna Mahabaleshwar Temple. Within the temple is a granite figure. The image is 5 feet (1.5 m) tall and two-handed; at the top of its head there is hole that is said to be a mark of a violent blow inflicted by Ravana.
