The file 'Frosthaven Summons: Repair Drone 3D Printer Model' is (stl) file type, size is 13.1MB.
I made this model to be a proxy for the Frosthaven Repair Drone (https://github.com/any2cards/frosthaven/blob/master/images/art/frosthaven/characters/summons/fh-summon-repair-drone-front.png)! As you can tell from the artwork, this guy was a real challenge to realize in 3D space as a miniature for the tabletop. That artwork has such a cool dramatic angle and so many intricate details on the underside of the drone… which is rough, because on the table we're going to be viewing it from literally the opposite angle and all of those cool details will be obscured by the drone's body!
I initially made this with the idea that the drone was swooping in and pulling up (so that we could see its cool legs and stuff), but after I got it printed, I realized that it looks better going in the opposite direction (as I've captured in my photo). It looks more like it's actively flying across the ground like it's headed towards a target, which is a nice happy accident! There are a few “directional” details on the drone (which are backwards in my print…), so I made versions with those pointed both upwards and downwards so that you can choose whichever one you like better! Personally, I prefer the “downwards” version though :P
Unfortunately, support for this guy is a real bear. I'd initially hoped to make it printable in multiple parts so that the under carriage could be printed as a separate piece with the legs pointing upwards and then glued in place, but there both isn't a good line to split the model like that and those legs are how it connects to the base, creating even more complications with that plan. In the end, I just bit the bullet and printed it with a lot of support (as you can see). Removing the support was tedious but not too difficult, as I made the limbs a lot thicker than they are in the artwork specifically so that they'd be more robust IRL.
As always, the .blend file and pre-supported .3mf (including the one that I used to print this on my Prusa MK3, although the support points should work for SLA printers) for this model are available to my patrons at https://patreon.com/VirtuallyJason.
