Summary

05.24.21 UPDATE 2: I added four new shells: coral, steampunk, circles and scales. All files are in "light" version. If the quality seems bad to you, I can upload versions with a higher quality. Enjoy :)

05.24.21 UPDATE 1: I added light versions of all shells. Normally, the quality is approximately the same as before, but the files are much smaller. As far, I haven't been able to print them for testing, but I think everything should be OK. Please feel free to tell me if you have any problems.

Here is a small articulated snail ... with a whole bunch of shells to print! The shells are easy to put on and take off, so you can change them as you wish.

This design is a mix between two designs:

Many thanks to them for their great designs!

Twelve shells are available (cf. pictures):

  • shell01_organic: looks like a real snail shell
  • shell02_scrolls: shell with scrolls
  • shell03_broken: broken-looking shell
  • shell04_disco: shell with a disco / psychedelic pattern
  • shell05_organic2: another realistic shell
  • shell06_square: shell with square-shaped patterns
  • shell07_flowers: shell with flower-shaped patterns
  • shell08_oriental: a shell with a pattern inspired by far eastern art
  • shell09_coral: a shell which looks like coral (new)
  • shell10_steampunk: a shell with a steampunk style (new)
  • shell11_circles: a shell covered with circles (new)
  • shell12_scales: a shell covered with scales (new)

There is a 13th shell file: shell00_basis.stl. This is the file that served as the basis for all my shells. This version is only slightly modified compared to that of crashdebug. I put it on so you can use it to create your own shells!

ENJOY !

If you print a snail, post a make, that will make me happy =)

Some printing tips:

  • I recommend printing the body of the snail (= SlugV1.1_snail.stl) with 35% infill for reasons of strength. I also recommend a layer height of 0.16 or less. There is no need for supports.
  • I recommend printing the shells with a low infill rate (I printed at 3%) to avoid them being too heavy. I also recommend a small layer height (0.12) to better highlight the details. You have to print them with supports (I used tree supports).

I only used "silk" filament to print the snail. I am not sure what will be the result with another type of filament.

The filaments I used:

  • Eryone Silk Emerald Green PLA
  • Eryone Dark Gold PLA
  • Noulei Antique Gold PLA
  • Noulei Copper PLA
  • Noulei Silver Blue PLA
  • Sunlu Silk Black PLA
