I wanted a utility cup and holder for the French Cleat system on my workbench to provide easy access to pens, pencils, my Xacto knife, etc. I designed this holder, ring, and cup to fit the purpose. The holder mates with my french cleats which are cut on 45° angles and are 19mm x 19mm. The ring connects to the holder bracket with a dovetail, and the cup is easily removable.
The back bracket needs to be printed with supports (to bed only) to accommodate the rounded tongue.
The ring needs to be printed with a skirt so the edge of the dovetail where it meets the plate will stick down. It prints fine with the following settings in Slic3r:
If you are careful about trimming the excess skirt material off the lower edge of the dovetail the ring should be snug but fairly easy to remove.
I'm probably going to design a few more ring sizes for various purposes (beer bottle, travel coffee mug, pint glass, etc) with the idea of having a utility cup and another one for whatever my BEvERage of the moment might be. Much safer than having the drink just sitting on the workbench...
I know french cleat systems can be very different so I'm including the FreeCAD files to make everything easier to tweak for their own purposes. These models were designed with FreeCAD 0.18.
Happy Printing!
